leslie mossman & darcy schein
So... two moms, who are great cooks and get an offer from a local restaurant group looking for a "dessert", start the ball rolling on sweet treats, and then take off opening up their own place in the Plaza District? Huh? Yup, it's PIE JUNKIE!
Tonight I had the special treat of sitting down with Leslie Mossman and Darcy Shein, the ladies of PIE JUNKIE, to chat about pie and all that goes in to being the hottest new merchant in town. You get the inside story of how they got started, the flavors they have created, and something delicious about a salted bourbon caramel whatchamacallit drizzled on the crust of Leslie's grandmother's pie pastry recipe. Say that five times fast and not get slapped!
PIE JUNKIE started out as two moms, who are great cooks, that decided to test the waters of catering. Once word got out to the gang of S&B Burger Joint that there was dessert to be had, the ladies started knocking out peach pie, and other flavors to this local burger hot-spot, and the fire in the ovens of what was to soon become PIE JUNKIE kicked on to high. I mean roaring!
Growing from renting the kitchen of a local downtown church's kitchen, to finally taking the big leap and opening up their own spot on NW 16th Street, through a lot of time, patience, and good faith from an area property owner, these two have really got something wonderful and unique going on for Oklahoma City. Not only does PIE JUNKIE do the sweet, but check them out for the savory. Quiche of all flavors , Double Crusted Chicken Pot Pie, and an amazing good old southern delicacy Tomato Pie!
Check out PIE JUNKIE anytime you need something special for a friend, have a special occasion, craving a quick and easy lunch on the go, or tired of your significant other "watching" what you eat. PIE JUNKIE serves by the slice ;-) 1711 NW 16th Street (405) 605-8767 Hours: Tuesday-Friday 8:30AM-6:00PM and Saturday 11:00AM-4:00PM. Closed Sunday and Monday.
